PURPOSE
This position is responsible for scheduling, counselling, career education, and academic support to middle school students.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Implements the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program, encompassing the four key components: Curriculum, Individual Student Planning, Responsive Services, and System Support.

Collaborates with staff to establish and evaluate program goals aligned with student development and school improvement initiatives.

Supports students in their personal, social, academic, and emotional adjustment to enhance overall school success.

Promotes the development of students’ positive self-concept and self-awareness through targeted counseling strategies.

Regularly delivers the Secondary School Counseling Curriculum through scheduled visits to grades 6–8 classrooms.

Provides individualized and small-group counseling, as well as crisis intervention, to support students’ academic, career, emotional, and social development.

Consults with teachers, parents, and school administrators to identify and address student needs and develop appropriate interventions.

Engages with parent groups to support effective parenting practices and facilitates discussions on topics relevant to child development and student success.

Delivers in-service training sessions for school personnel to enhance staff understanding of and responsiveness to students’ diverse needs.

Supports the planning and execution of school-wide programs aimed at improving students’ academic achievement and emotional well-being.

Coordinates referrals and connections to community mental health services and external support agencies for students and families.

Develops and manages student schedules for each academic quarter, ensuring alignment with educational goals and individual needs.

Assists in the implementation and reinforcement of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to foster a positive, safe, and respectful school climate.
Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Hallsville School District.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree,Missouri certification in the area of 6-8 Student Services- Counselor.

Other Skills and Abilities: Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly; Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Technology: Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information to students using a variety of media; Access and present information from online sources in a manner that enhances instruction; lead and monitor students as they perform online research; Lead students in creating and presenting multimedia projects when such assignments enhance student learning; Use district software for recording grades and finding student information; Readily utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district; Adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology use.
Physical Demands: An individual who holds this position must have the ability to: Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; Move around the classroom to interact with and manage students/groups of students; Read handwritten or printed material.
Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Conditions and Environment: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation.
